This Saturday we will be going to a migrant children’s school in the north of Beijing. There are more than 500,000 migrant children in and around Beijing. These are the children of migrant workers who have left the poverty of their hometowns to find work and a new life in Beijing. Unfortunately, standards at migrant schools are very bad, mostly due to a lack of funding.

Many of the children will not have ever seen a foreign face before. Teaching in a migrant school is a very different experience from teaching in other schools, and volunteering with the migrant community is a worthwhile and rewarding experience.

During the first hour, we will be giving a simple introduction to English, and foreign songs; during the second hour we will be playing games such as jump rope or hopscotch.
